FKP Day at UTeM, 9th December 2015

Assalamualaikum

Hello everyone. Just noticed that I never wrote any posts in this blog about my faculty here in UTeM. Thus, here is a post on an event organized at Fakulti Kejuruteraan Pembuatan (FKP), UTeM.

The Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering was officially established on the 22nd of June 2001 with approval of the Ministry of Education. The first course offered was Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering (Manufacturing Process) in November 2001. I have been serving my duties here as a lecturer (previously as a tutor) since October 2004. I cannot believe that 11 years had gone by :)

On 9th December 2015, the students' committee at my faculty: the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) had organized an open-day at the main campus in Durian Tunggal. Take a look at the snippets and some pictures of the program which began at 8:30 am and lasted until 5:30 pm.

Program line-up for FKP Day 2015

Build-a-rocket competition for kids
Kids trying their rocket-making skills, first time
Rocket launch time to see whose rocket will fly the farthest
For the 2015/2016 session, I have 3 undergraduate students to supervise. This is my student Ume Nur Ashikien with her final year project poster. Her project is on human-robot interaction (HRI)
Meet Faris who will be hacking a Keepon robot for HRI purpose
And this is Ammar and his project is on the performance analysis of an industrial robot
FKP Day was a success, I could see many happy faces throughout the event. There were carboot sale, band performances, food kiosks and loads more. Next semester in 2016 there will be another open day held in FKP to celebrate Mechatronics Day and Product Design & Development Project presentation. Hope to take more pictures then to post here in my blog.

Till the next post, take care

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. Picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Another picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Now, what is a hooding ceremony? It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g...

EMC 311 MECHATRONICS: PROJECT EVALUATION DAY ON 9TH JULY 2024

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone Time seems to slip away when you're knee-deep in excitement. It's not that the clock ticks faster, but you're so engrossed that hours feel like minutes. Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday that the semester kicked off with so much promise. We've hit Week 16—the final stretch for undergraduate students at USM this semester. For those in the EMC 311 Mechatronics course, this week was all about the ultimate showdown: the evaluation of their mobile robot projects, which make up a cool 10% of their total grade. Picture this: robots zipping around, tackling tasks, detecting obstacles, and following lines like tiny mechanical superheroes. The project isn't just about grades; it's a chance for students to flex their mechanical, programming, and problem-solving muscles in a hands-on, team-driven environment. Since day one, these future tech wizards have been split into 40 groups, working week by week to piece together their ro...
