8th UTeM Roborace Challenge 2015 organized by Jabatan Komputeran Industri, Fakulti Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi (FTMK), UTeM

hi peeps On 18th November 2015, a robotic competition was held here at the Fakulti Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi (FTMK), UTeM.   http://utem-roborace.blogspot.com/   The theme of the competition is:  Bot of the Rings "Help Frobot in completing its mission in destroying the One Ball in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged. The missions that need to be accomplished include:   Zone 1: Follow the Path. Frobot has to follow the right path to Mount Doom. Zone 2: Solve the Maze. It needs to pass the maze in order to reach its destination. Zone 3: Up the Ramp. Frobot must climb the ramp to reach the top of Mount Doom safely. Zone 4: Drop the Ball. After it bears the great burden throughout its journey, it could finally drop the ball in the fires of Mount Doom." Frobot has to follow the right path to Mount Doom The robot platform used was the LEGO Mindstorm NXT robot. I am so enormously happy and proud because my students had won the fourth place.

FKP Day at UTeM, 9th December 2015

Assalamualaikum Hello everyone. Just noticed that I never wrote any posts in this blog about my faculty here in UTeM. Thus, here is a post on an event organized at Fakulti Kejuruteraan Pembuatan (FKP), UTeM.  The Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering was officially established on the 22nd of June 2001 with approval of the Ministry of Education. The first course offered was Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering (Manufacturing Process) in November 2001. I have been serving my duties here as a lecturer (previously as a tutor) since October 2004. I cannot believe that 11 years had gone by :) On 9th December 2015, the students' committee at my faculty: the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) had organized an open-day at the main campus in Durian Tunggal. Take a look at the snippets and some pictures of the program which began at 8:30 am and lasted until 5:30 pm. IEEE IRIS 2015 PhD Forum, 19th October 2015, Berjaya Resort Langkawi

Hello everyone. Completing a PhD is an odyssey. Many challenges lie ahead, even before the PhD actually started. PhD is definitely a rewarding experience but at every step of the way, a dose of motivation is needed to keep things in perspective. In conjunction with the IEEE-IRIS2015 conference from 18-20th October 2015, a special program was held to celebrate and motivate future, current and recently graduated PhD students. I believe that those who are about to kick start their PhD especially will have a lot of questions going through their minds.  Final program outline for the Forum  Associate Professor Dr Rugayah Hashim from Fakulti Sains Pentadbiran Dan Pengajian Polisi UiTM and myself were given the task to organize this program during IRIS2015 conference. I was also given the honour to the third keynote speaker who will be speaking to the audience after Prof Dr Ahmad Fauzi (UTM) and Prof Dr M. Iqbal Saripan (UPM). I was truly excited and nervous at the sam

When will I continue writing? My research area is still in the spotlight :)

I really miss all the wonderful time during my PhD where I had the endless luxury to write and write. Papers that I wrote, though they are about my PhD data collections, were actually a series of stories put together which portrays my research journey since 2011. Alhamdulillah I am currently supervising a few mini-projects on human-robot interaction (HRI) to kick-start my research story after PhD. HRI really is a phenomenal research theme. Hope I can inspire more researchers to venture into this area.

Presenting at The 24th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication Kobe International Conference Center, Kobe, Japan (August 31 to September 4, 2015)

Hi! Though my life is quite chaotic due to the 'relocation' process from Shah Alam back to Melaka, I managed to plan for a short conference getaway to Kobe, Japan. Of course I did not travel alone (never ever!), I brought my family with me. However, this means that it will be a working-trip for me and a sightseeing one for them. We safely landed in Osaka-Kansai airport after a 7-hour flight. Alhamdulillah.  We stayed in Rokko (a rural part of Kobe) during the trip and it took one-hour of limo-bus ride from Kansai Airport to reach the apartment. RO-MAN2015 The conference was held at the  Kobe Convention Center which is  located on Port Island, about 10 minutes from downtown Kobe (Sannomiya). We stayed in Rokko (a rural part of Kobe) during the trip so we had to travel by bus and train to Sannomiya and took the Portliner train to Shiminhiroba Station. Call for Participants: PhD Forum during IEEE-IRIS2015 Conference in Langkawi (19th October 2015)

“ It always seem impossible until it’s done ”- Nelson Mandela Are you facing difficulties during your PhD study? Feeling like your path to PhD is a lonely journey? Or you have just had your Viva and have lots of experience to share with others? Come and join this special event for aspiring, current and future doctorates! Completing a PhD is an odyssey. In fact, successfully undertaking a PhD degree requires self-determination, diligence, and the capacity for critical but constructive thinking as well as a thorough understanding of the relevant academic discipline. The PhD (Doctoral) Forum is one of many special programs organized as part of the 2015 IEEE 3rd International Symposium on Robotics and Intelligent Sensors (IEEE-IRIS2015). The 3-hour, interactive session will be held on the second day of the symposium (19 th October 2015). PhD Forum aims to p rovide a setting for mutual feedback on participants' current research projects and guidance on future

Next mission: Postdoc Opportunities

Hello there Currently, my eyes are looking for international post-doctoral scholarships.  Just doing it for fun, because you never know when the perfect timing arrives (wink!) Let me keep the links here as a note because some of the opportunities for 2015 are no longer available so have to wait for 2016 openings. 1)  Newton International Fellowships Scheme (UK) The Newton International Fellowships Scheme is delivered by the British Academy, the  Royal Society  and the Academy of Medical Sciences. The Scheme has been established to select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world and enable them to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. The Scheme covers researchers in all disciplines covered by the two academies – physical, natural and social sciences, and the humanities. Research Gate Profile

Looks like recently more people have found my research activities to be interesting :) I need to do more studies to expand the findings in my PhD.  I am back in my office now (after 4 years of study leave, doing research full time which is heavenly). Doing intensive research will be a challenge on top of my duties at the faculty. Wish me luck! 4th September 2015 11th September 2015

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition in UiTM on 2nd April 2015

For the first time in history, UiTM had organized the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on 2nd April 2015 at ILQAM, UiTM Shah Alam. All PhD students were encouraged to participate. Winners will be representing Uitm for the national 3MT competition in UTM KL on 12th May 2015. As I love talking about my Phd study and after getting wholesome support from my family and labmates, I decided to take part in this oral competition. "Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) celebrates the exciting research conducted by PhD students. Developed by  The University of Queensland , the exercise cultivates students' academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. " 3MT is an official trademark owned by the University of Queensland Look what I brought back after the competition.. Alhamdulillah, thank you Alla
