UiTM 104th HOODING CEREMONY FOR THE PhD GRADUATES ON 5TH MAY 2026

Assalamualaikum wbth and good day

Hello everyone :)

About ten years ago, I wrote about the hooding ceremony for UiTM’s PhD graduands. At that time, I shared my thoughts on how meaningful this ceremony was, not only for the students but also for the supervisors who had walked alongside them throughout their doctoral journey.

The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognition ceremony for doctoral degree students. During the ceremony, the supervisors and their students are invited on stage for a photo session, symbolising the successful completion of the PhD journey. It is a simple yet deeply meaningful moment, as it reflects years of hard work, perseverance, sacrifice and academic growth.

This year, I felt truly honoured and proud to be part of the hooding ceremony for my PhD student, Dr. Muhammad Aliff Rosly.

Although I served as his co-supervisor, the joy I felt was no less meaningful. Seeing a student complete a PhD is always a special experience. It reminds us that supervision is not only about research, writing and publication. It is also about guidance, encouragement, trust and shared commitment.

A PhD journey is never easy. There are moments of uncertainty, long discussions, revisions, challenges and personal sacrifices. Therefore, witnessing a student finally reach the finish line is a proud and emotional moment.

Congratulations, Dr. Muhammad Aliff Rosly, on this wonderful achievement. May this success be the beginning of many more meaningful contributions in your academic and professional journey.

As a supervisor and educator, moments like this remind me why we continue to guide, support and believe in our students.

Alhamdulillah, truly a proud moment.

Congratulations, Dr. Muhammad Aliff Rosly

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g...

EMC 311 MECHATRONICS: PROJECT EVALUATION DAY ON 9TH JULY 2024

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone Time seems to slip away when you're knee-deep in excitement. It's not that the clock ticks faster, but you're so engrossed that hours feel like minutes. Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday that the semester kicked off with so much promise. We've hit Week 16—the final stretch for undergraduate students at USM this semester. For those in the EMC 311 Mechatronics course, this week was all about the ultimate showdown: the evaluation of their mobile robot projects, which make up a cool 10% of their total grade. Picture this: robots zipping around, tackling tasks, detecting obstacles, and following lines like tiny mechanical superheroes. The project isn't just about grades; it's a chance for students to flex their mechanical, programming, and problem-solving muscles in a hands-on, team-driven environment. Since day one, these future tech wizards have been split into 40 groups, working week by week to piece together their ro...
