Outreach Program with SK Kota Kulai II: Fundamental Robotics Workshop

Assalamualaikum

Dear everyone,

As an academician/researcher, I always have this strong notion to make the university a close partner to the community as much as possible.

Apparently, this idea is not only shared by many but also by our beloved former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad as I had found in an article published on 7th September 1996.

One of our programs for 2016 at the Department of Robotics and Automation, FKP UTeM is to conduct a hands-on training with primary school teachers. The ripple effect resulting from this is the foundations of setting up a Robotics Club at the particular school.

Thus, on 14th April 2016 recently our department had successfully organized such program with 3 teachers from SK Kota Kulai II, Johor. Here are some of the pictures taken during the one-day workshop:

Our trainer for the day: Dr. Ahmad Yusairi Bani Hashim. Kudos for the expertise and passion

Dedicated school teachers

Each teacher paired up with one of our students when assembling the circuitry for the light-following robot

Two of the robots constructed by the workshop participants

A short tour visiting our Mechatronics Lab with all the delegates

Other lecturers who took part were Dr Silah Hayati, Mr Mahasan, myself and 4 final year students. Overall, we were glad that the participants had enjoyed the workshop and was able to construct their own simple robots.

Till next time. cheerios!

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g
