Demo and Survey on Website and Robot Application for Autism at FSK UiTM Puncak Alam on 2nd January 2015

Assalamualaikum

Hello everyone. This post is about the final data collection for my PhD, which is to conduct a survey specifically to gather feedback on the usability of my telerehabilitation website.

In rehabilitation robotics, robots perform tasks to help disabled humans replace the loss of body function, provide assistance in therapy and promote physical and cognitive engagement. Presently, telecommunication technology eliminates distance barriers in healthcare services, allowing storage and access of treatment resources and patients’ information. Tele-rehabilitation refers to the delivery of rehabilitation services using the means of telecommunication technologies. Such services include assessment, intervention, education and also therapeutic interventions for disabled people.

Going back to the survey; the first ten questions are adopted from the System Usability Scale (SUS) which seeks opinion from respondents regarding the usability of the robotic tele-rehabilitation website. SUS consists of 10 items (Brooke, 1986) and they are all validated and reliable.

Coincidentally, another colleague of mine at the lab had also developed a robot-based application on the Android platform to help non-technical persons control a robot during autism therapy. So this survey shall cover questionnaires for my website and the Android app.

Alhamdulillah we were able to secure the date 2nd January 2015 for the survey at Faculty of Health Sciences, UiTM Puncak Alam. A special thanks goes to Puan Husna Ahmad Ainuddin who is a lecturer from the Department of Occupational Therapy who had helped a lot in making this event happen.

We were  grateful because even though we had requested for a total of 12 therapists, a total of 17 respondents turned up for the event. We truly appreciate the time and commitment given.

The aim of the survey of the website and Android robot app for autism is to get first hand opinion on the design, content and usability of these systems from the perspective of its future users.

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. Picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Another picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Now, what is a hooding ceremony? It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g
