Growing Up with NAO the Robot :)

Assalamualaikum and hi! It is a beautiful day here in Shah Alam. Let's surround ourselves with positive vibes and happy thoughts. Now, this blog is sort of my on-line diary about my journey as a research student since 2011. Earlier today my mind keeps remembering about the first semester I spent in UiTM as a student. Back in 2011, our research team in HuRoBs had only one NAO robot. The NAO V3.  But this grey robot has been very good to us. I love it to bits. Then in 2012, the NAO V4 (NextGen) was launched. So we got to obtain one of our own :) 2014: introducing NAO V5. Recently we took the chance to explore its face detection and recognition algorithm. FYI, NAO V5 comes with a new Choregraphe software suite (V 2.0) that is also compatible with Aldebaran Romeo and Pepper. I noticed that the V5 comes with a new voice which is smoother but sounds more girl-like. Hmm.

First Collaborative Meeting with Puan Husna Ahmad Ainuddin from the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiTM

Assalamualaikum Hello peeps.  One of perks of doing research or being an postgraduate student in a university such as UiTM is the extensive opportunities available for multi-disciplinary studies. So far our team has been blessed with a successful collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and thus enable us to reach a huge breakthrough in our initial study on robotic intervention for children with autism. Now, our latest project at the HuRoBs lab is to come up with an Android app for smartphones and tablets to control the humanoid robot NAO. Alhamdulillah, this app which has been developed by Azfar is now fully functional. The next step is for someone from the medical or health sciences team to test this application as it was meant to enable them to use this robot as tool during autism intervention activities. As we are very much aware of, non-technical people do not have the time to program the robot by themselves due to their busy schedule. Plus some might even find the

“ Be in this life as if you are a stranger or a traveller .”- Prophet Muhammad SAW I like listening to Yasmin Mogahed. She believes that there’s a certain mentality when you know that you are staying somewhere temporarily. You know that you are leaving. So you don’t get so attached. Especially about the little things. Life is temporary. Make each day as happy as you can be. Make yourself, your loved ones and your friends happy too. And today I'm gonna make myself happy and submit 'that' journal paper, insya Allah.

The 2013-2014 International Robot PRIDE Competition, 21-22 June 2014, UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone (blowing at cobwebs...   J ) I miss writing in this space. Pardon me for the long silence.  The photos for this post has been sitting in my HDD for almost two months now. Need to write about this event or risk forgetting all about it. I've mentioned in a previous post about the PRIDE competition. Alhamdulillah, this robotic 'gathering' had taken place as planned at the Dewan Sri Budiman, UiTM Shah Alam from 21-22 June 2014.  Some forewords from the Honorary Chair of PRIDE 2013-2014, Dr Hanafiah Yussof: "It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd 2013-2014 International Robot PRIDE Competition (PRIDE2013-2014). This is the second edition of PRIDE competition, where it was firstly organized in September 2012 in at Kuching Sarawak. This year, PRIDE highlights the theme “Technology for Domestic Used and Disabled Community”. This is part of our nation’s effort and vision to promote and encourage creative ideas and
