The NASOM National Sports Day 2014

The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) has been the most valuable research partner for my research at HuRoBs since 2011.

As I have mentioned before, I will always do my best to support and give help to NASOM as much as I can. So when Puan Rose (the Vice Principal of NASOM) called me two weeks ago asking for volunteers to help with The NASOM National Sports Day 2014 on 10th June 2014, I immediately asked for help from my colleagues at HuRoBs to help out at the event.

The full program for the sports day are:

The on-site preparations at Stadium JKR Seksyen 17 began a day earlier where all the teachers and committee members set-up the place for the 50 M run and also Sukaneka (Tele-match).

The day for the Sports Day dawned bright, sunny and hot when I arrived at the stadium on the 10th June. Most of the participants with their respective parents and families were already there having breakfast before the event officially starts at 7:45 am. All the volunteers had no specific task job, we just mingled around with the crowd and lend helping hands whenever possible.

The event kicked-off with the marching parade of all the sports team (Rumah Merah, Biru, Kuning and Hijau).

Then all the audience stood straight and sang 'Negaraku' as loud as we can.

After a session of Senamrobics-warming up, the field competition (olahraga) began!

Then suddenly dark clouds hovered over us and it began to rain so heavily.

So we continued with the sports activities indoors for 9 games of tele-match.

When the rain had stopped, the program continued outdoors on the stadium track with sports event involving parents and teachers.

The morning event closed with the prize giving ceremony at 11:30 am.

In the afternoon, the NASOM Sports Day event continued with the bowling competition at Mega Lanes, Plaza Alam Sentral. The bowling match began at 3:00 pm and finished at about 4:30 pm.

The third event: the swimming competition was held at SuperSharkz Swimschool, Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan in Seksyen 13 Shah Alam. Though the contest only involved 8 participants but it was a huge loads of fun for all.

All in all, bravo to the organizing team at NASOM especially Puan Rose and Puan Mariyam because the whole event went so well. Thank you to JKR Malaysia for sponsoring the field venue at Stadium JKR Shah Alam and to SuperSharkz Swimschool for hosting and sponsoring the location for the swimming competition.

I was so happy that I was given the chance to support and help out in this event. I saw that the children with autism who took part in the sports activities had a truly enjoyable time with their friends and families.

These children must always be given the opportunity and exposure to participate in such activities just like other typical children.

May Allah swt bless all the wonderful people who makes the lives of these special children a memorable one.

Till next time. Take care!

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g
