THE LADYBUG ROBOTICS WORKSHOP FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN MELAKA (16TH FEBRUARY 2023)

Assalamualaikum and hello readers 😊

The Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering, UTeM was really honored to welcome a group of high school students and teachers here recently under "The Ladybug Workshop Program". We were the official hosts together with Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Melaka and RoboForce Enterprise (a robotics-based company in Melaka). More than 20 schools turned up and the auditorium was packed and lively with the presence of the excited participants.

Overall it was loads of fun as I was given the honor to conduct a sharing session about introduction to robots, my research experience and facilities available in UTeM for students who wish to pursue a career as a manufacturing engineer. I have always enjoyed talking about my passion and 40 minutes was too short for me!

The objective of the workshop was to help build interest in robotics among the students. They were grouped into teams of 3-4 and each team was given a set of the Ladybug robot which was designed exclusively by RoboForce. Then, they were introduced to the basic features of LadyBug, how to build a line following robot then then teams shall assemble and program the robot by themselves.

We hope that this program has achieved its objectives. I brought the social robot PARO to "mingle" with the workshop participants. I can see happy smiles all around as the students interacted with PARO 😉.

See you in my next post!

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. Picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Another picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Now, what is a hooding ceremony? It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g...

EMC 311 MECHATRONICS: PROJECT EVALUATION DAY ON 9TH JULY 2024

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone Time seems to slip away when you're knee-deep in excitement. It's not that the clock ticks faster, but you're so engrossed that hours feel like minutes. Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday that the semester kicked off with so much promise. We've hit Week 16—the final stretch for undergraduate students at USM this semester. For those in the EMC 311 Mechatronics course, this week was all about the ultimate showdown: the evaluation of their mobile robot projects, which make up a cool 10% of their total grade. Picture this: robots zipping around, tackling tasks, detecting obstacles, and following lines like tiny mechanical superheroes. The project isn't just about grades; it's a chance for students to flex their mechanical, programming, and problem-solving muscles in a hands-on, team-driven environment. Since day one, these future tech wizards have been split into 40 groups, working week by week to piece together their ro...
