IEEE IRIS 2015 PhD Forum, 19th October 2015, Berjaya Resort Langkawi

Hello everyone.

Completing a PhD is an odyssey. Many challenges lie ahead, even before the PhD actually started. PhD is definitely a rewarding experience but at every step of the way, a dose of motivation is needed to keep things in perspective.

In conjunction with the IEEE-IRIS2015 conference from 18-20th October 2015, a special program was held to celebrate and motivate future, current and recently graduated PhD students. I believe that those who are about to kick start their PhD especially will have a lot of questions going through their minds.

Final program outline for the Forum

Associate Professor Dr Rugayah Hashim from Fakulti Sains Pentadbiran Dan Pengajian Polisi UiTM and myself were given the task to organize this program during IRIS2015 conference. I was also given the honour to the third keynote speaker who will be speaking to the audience after Prof Dr Ahmad Fauzi (UTM) and Prof Dr M. Iqbal Saripan (UPM). I was truly excited and nervous at the same time! Alhamdulillah, after making the best preparations for my slides and also support and tips from my supervisor, Dr Rugayah herself and my colleagues in UTeM, everything went well during the Forum.

First Keynote Presentation by Prof Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, UTM
Second Keynote Presentation by Prof M Iqbal Saripan, UPM
The Third Keynote Presentation by me! :)
I felt so small standing on stage

What is a hooding ceremony?

I have always been intrigued by this event called 'the hooding ceremony' since I began my student life in UiTM about 3 years ago. This term always come to my attention and 'pops out' during the UiTM convocation ceremony. Yesterday I saw a post on the hooding ceremony (again) when my other half was browsing through IPSis UiTM's FB page. IPSis wrote that 52 PhD graduates had successfully completed their studies in UiTM and will receive their scroll in the 81st convocation ceremony. Picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Another picture take from IPSis UiTM's Facebook page Now, what is a hooding ceremony? It is simply a ceremony held for students graduating with a master’s or PhD degree. The placing of the hood signifies the passage from student to 'master's' or ‘PhD'. The hooding ceremony and recognition of students’ accomplishments draw attention to the scholarly and the personal achievements of the candidates for g...
